Logo PRAMPhoto PRAM

The creation of the Agro-environmental research pole of Martinique (PRAM) enabled to reinforce and to modernize research means of its members. This pole, located in the Lamentin, groups human and technical means from:

  • Cemagref (Research institute for agricultural and environmental engineering)
  • Cirad (International cooperation centre in agronomical research for development)
  • Ird (Research institute for development)

By fundamental and applied research, Pram has for main objective to contribute to the sustainable development of Martinique trying to offer responses to new agricultural stakes within the insular environment with strong restrictions. Contributing to sustainable development of Martinique signifies that we consider all aspects as economical, environmental and social ones, within systemic interdisciplinary measures.

Favouring the agro-systems durability, respecting environment and creating space, providing sanitary warranties, developing economical activities to preserve employment, diversifying productions and improving products quality constitute stakes which is important to raise. Pram will participate, full term, a real motor for the agricultural influence of Martinique and the cooperation within Caribbean space.

Currently, the Agro-environmental research pole of Martinique accommodates, on 2 500 m2, hundred agents, with 17 researchers, 20 technicians, 10 doctorates and interns. It disposes of high level scientific equipments, modernised for an installation certification. Works are lead on different subjects such as bananas, market gardening, fruit arboriculture, pineapple and tropical flowers. Several scientific disciplines are mobilised and represented to conclude work: agronomy, pedology, nematology, pathophysiology, entomology, biochemistry, post-recolted physiology and more recently ecology.
